ARCTIC CAT WILDCAT PROTOTYPE SNOWMOBILE AND ARCTICWEAR FASHION
I
ASKED DAVID WELLS FOR INFO ON THIS BROCHURE.
HERE
IS WHAT HE SAID.............
David, Officially there were
no 1987 Wildcats, they were all officially 1988 models.
There was a batch of 100 pre-production Wildcats that were used for evaluation
purposes by
factory
test riders and select dealers and racers. That’s what is being offered
in the ad you found.
These
100 sleds are very definitely different from the production models,
so
I can see how they could be confused for 1987 models, but they are not
87s.
Changes
for the production sleds included bulkhead, hood, dash, and seat (and I
think some trim) plus going from 40mm carbs on
the
100 pre-production units to 38mm carbs on the production sleds. (EFI Wildcats
came later.) There may well be some other subtle
differences
that I am not aware of (things like clutch and suspension tuning, electrical
details, etc.).
You can tell the difference between the pre-production Wildcats and the
1988 production units by carefully
studying
the seat and hood. The production sleds have a bit lower seat profile among
other things.
That’s about what I’ve got on this subject. Dave Wells
